You Are Invited.............

TO:

Holidays Arts & Crafts Bazaar
November 28
9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Where:
First Southern Baptist Church
Christian Life Center
715 N. Woodlawn St.
Wellington, Kansas

If you and/or your family and friends are in Wellington, or nearby, come by the Christmas bazaar. I will have a booth with my painted gourds, drawings, and paintings. There will be food vendors and door prizes. Come on over and have some fun............AND, maybe you will find a unique gift and/or decoration for
your Christmas list! At any rate, it will be a fun morning and afternoon - a nice time to relax after the Thanksgiving meals. :)

Gourds 'n stuff .....

Okay. I am now officially 64. Since Wednesday of this week.

I turned 64. And then I painted and wood-burned some more gourds. Yes, I'm now 64 but I can still paint a gourd. And other things. So.....this profound observation means what, exactly? Well, that "even though" I am now 64, I can still DO things. Paint gourds. Read books. Cook. Lots of things, really. I'm telling myself that I may be over that hill, but I'm not at the BOTTOM of it yet. So, I will continue to paint gourds - and other things. And read. And cook. And thank the good Lord that I CAN.

And I will repeat to myself what my eleven-year-old grandson, Christian, just told me a minute or so ago: "Life is good, Nonny." Yes! YES! Life IS good. I can still paint gourds. :)

Getting Old......

I'm feeling nostalgic this week.

Guess 'cause it's birthday week . At least, one of our grandsons, Christian, just turned eleven. That doesn't seem possible. Doesn't seem like it's been eleven years since we were "timing" his Mama's contractions, then getting her to the hospital.

But, it's true - eleven
years since that happened!

Probably feeling nostalgic, too, 'cause my own birthday is coming up in a week or so. I had been looking at some old family photos (some are here) - and started thinking: "where have all the years gone????" John and I look like kids in these pictures; yet we thought, at the time, we were so "adult". :) John's photo is his high school Senior photo (cute, isn't he?!) - and mine is after we were married and I was a young mama.

And, of course, these cute kids are the ones I was the young mama TO! And, now, I am the OLD mama to them - and the grandma to THEIR kids. Again, where did all the years go? I remember, as a young mama, hearing the "older" moms tell me, from time to time, "enjoy them now, because they grow up fast".

Yeah, sure......I also remember the days when I was thinking, "REALLY? HOW FAST?" ha But, those were only on those "will this ever end???" days. Mostly, I didn't want them to end. I wanted the kids to stay little and cute......well, in my heart, if not in reality. It didn't seem at the time that they would ever grow up and be gone. Or, at least, it seemed as if I didn't need to worry about it, as it would take a LONG time for that to happen.

But it didn't. Take a long time. It didn't take a long time and now here I am wondering how all those years could be gone already. Our kids are adults themselves, some married and with children of their own. Spread out all over the country. We don't see them often. I am proud of them. And I miss them. I DO thank God for technology........telephones (the "normal" ones), cell phones where you can send photos and videos back and forth immediately, computers with the email and Facebook and Blogs. It's so much easier to stay in touch with distant family members nowadays. It doesn't replace the face-to-face-now-I-can-hug-you times; but it helps.

Yes, time has certainly flown. I will turn sixty-four soon..........many years past the young-mama stage. Now I find it is ME saying to the young moms, "enjoy them now, 'cause they sure grow up fast". And I smile as I see THEIR smiles and can almost read their thoughts, "yeah, sure .....will these frantic days NEVER end???" Yes, they will. All too soon. Some day, before you realize it, young mamas, you, too will be turning sixty-four and wondering where the years went and how did those babies grow up so fast......and it will be YOU passing on the "enjoy them now....." advice.

Birthdays make us think, I suppose, about the past. However, as I told a younger friend recently who was worrying about turning forty: "Thank God for being forty (or sixty-four!), because if you weren't forty, that means you just AREN'T period!)." And I still AM. So, I'll remember the "old days", but look forward to the new ones to come. I may be "getting old" or, as younger ones think, AM old - but I still AM. :)

First of the season...........

I wrote this once, then lost it somewhere! :( And can't find it again. I had written the post WITH the photos - now I have the photos but couldn't get the post WITH them, so will write it here.

The boy in the photo is our grandson, Christian, enjoying his first hot chocolate and first wood fire of the season. He is always ready to "start the fire".........so, when it cooled off, we finally did. The next night we had a fire and roasted marshmallows. We have done hot-dogs on the fire before, too - and will again. We've even done grilled-cheese sandwiches. And, if we had a flat-topped wood stove, I'd be having pots of chili, soup, stews on it simmering all afternoon. Yum! (instead, I simmer on the stove or in the crockpot)

I LOVE Fall and the cooler temperatures. The fall weather perks me up - and the fall colors excite me to no end. Everytime I pass by displays of fall pumpkins, gourds, squash, etc., with the various colors of mums - I can't help murmuring to myself, "THANK YOU, God, for creating such beauty!" I LOVE it!!!! I'm even looking forward to winter - though my husband just said this gray afternoon, "I don't look forward to winter.....". But I am like a little kid - I can hardly wait for that first snow. I love to build a fire and sit by it with a cup of tea or hot chocolate, with a book/magazine/newspaper/or watching t.v. (as long as we have that wood for the fire, that is!) Actually, John enjoys that, too - when he can take the time to do so.

As a person who loves to cook and bake, I have to say that Fall inspires me to do more of it.........today, for instance, I mixed up some rolls, which are just about ready to pop into the oven. They will go nicely with the potato/hamburger chowder I made this afternoon for supper. So, as those rolls are ready to bake.....................................

First of the season......

Thoughts................

Was thinking about how the President has canceled the American defensive missile project in Poland, to appease Russia - and the next day on the news programs we see Iran announcing that they now have the capability to make THEIR missiles!

But.........I will stop thinking about it right now, as thinking about what's going on in this government lately is giving me headaches. I need a break!

*************************************************************************************

How about this: a recipe! For all of you who would love a very simple cookie-type recipe, THIS is it. I clipped this from a newspaper quite some time ago (the recipe was from a Bette Lindmark of Lee's Summit,MO.), but have never tried it - until this past week. It is so quick and so good! Great for the kids' lunch-boxes.........

TOFFEE CRACKERS (Preheat oven: 350 degrees / ungreased jelly-roll pan)

40 graham crackers (I broke them into two)
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup margarine (but I used a full cup of butter, instead of half margarine)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup chopped nuts

.....arrange the graham crackers in a single layer on the ungreased pan, placing them close together so crackers touch
.....combine butter, margarine (or just one cup butter) and sugar in small saucepan
...heat to boiling over medium heat - boil 3 minutes
.....pour butter/sugar mixture over the graham crackers
.....sprinkle the nuts over the crackers and sugar mixture

BAKE: 350 degrees - 12 to 15 minutes

Immediately remove cookies from pan and place on aluminum foil to cool quickly - let cool before serving.

Trust me - these are SO good! :)

P.S. I also tried this recipe using plain and whole-wheat soda crackers - very good, too ....... a tad less sweet, but quite good. Next time I am planning to sprinkle some chocolate chips over half of the recipe - and think you can sprinkle about anything you want (except for that kitchen sink!) on them. :)

Ministry

I "talked" with my son-in-law this afternoon for a minute - on the Facebook "chat" thing. My head was hurting and my heart was heavy.

"Ministry isn't always fun-and-games", I typed.

"Is it ever?", he replied.

"SOMEtimes it's fun!", I wrote.

But today wasn't one of the fun times. Today was hard. And sad. Heartbreaking. For me and my husband. Much more so for others. Tears are being shed tonight. And much prayer is being prayed.

In ministry, I often wish ..... oh, I SO wish sometimes, that I could take away the pain I see others suffering through. But I can't. I can hold a hand, put an arm around the shoulders, let my own tears fall. I can share the grief, but I cannot undo it.

So what do they do with their grief and pain? What do I do with their grief and pain that has become mine?

As I thumbed through the Psalms tonight, looking for some respite from a heavy heart, I saw once again these verses: Psalm 91: 1 & 2...............

"(1) He who dwells in the shelter of the most High will rest in the
shadow of the Almighty.
(2) I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God
in Whom I trust."

Yes, THAT is what I "do" with my grief. THAT is what the others do with their grief; with their pain. Because they, too, are God's.

We "rest in the shadow of the Almighty", Who IS our refuge, our strength. The One we can trust to help us through the grieving and the pain. The One who understands it all so well. Without Him, how does one cope?

Cottonwood Falls, Kansas

The Emma Chase Cafe also has bison burgers....which sound good to me! I'll have to try one the next time.

The Chase Country Courthouse is another "to see" attraction in this small town. Having outgrown their log-cabin courthouse and jail, the people of Chase County, at a special election in 1871, thirteen years after the county's formation and with a population of about 600, voted to approve the $40,000 bond levy to build a new jail and courthouse. Isaac Alexander donated the 2 1/2 acres of land for the building. The brochure about the courthouse says that the workers worked six days a week for two years building the building, a Louis XIII period French Renaissance Chateau. It has been in continual use as a courthouse since then, the oldest in Kansas and in the midwest still being used as a courthouse. The jail was still in use until the 1970's, when new state laws closed it. The building is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places and the Kansas Historical Site Register. "Unmatched in durability and design, the Courthouse remains a living tribute to its builders and the Flint Hills pioneers who dreamed of a Courthouse which would stand a century." (from: the Chase County Courthouse brochure)

Here are a few "signs of the times" from Cottonwood Falls, Kansas...........

Well, I have more Flint Hills area words/photos to come, but think I will stop here for now. But will say one more time: go visit Cottonwood Falls, and the Flint Hills areas around it - it's worth the visit!

40th Anniversary Retreat at Cottonwood Falls, Kansas

Thanks to our kids/spouses, we had a little get-away from our routine for our 40th anniversary last week. We were given an over-night stay/dinner at a "fancy" hotel...........I was surprised, as only my husband knew where we were going. He chose Cottonwood Falls, Kansas - a small town where we had stopped a couple of times before. We'd eaten lunch at the "fancy" hotel - and deemed it "wonderful" - the lunch AND the hotel. :) The hotel rooms were a bit beyond our reach, so we were quite happy to have a chance, thanks to family, to stay in it for a night. It is the Grand Central Hotel; beautiful. It first opened in 1884 and was re-opened in 1995, with all of its glory restored, with a western theme. Not "cute-sy", just beautiful! And I give the restaurant GREAT ratings. The food is delicious.........the steaks are DIVINE! Yum! If you have the opportunity to visit Cottonwood Falls, and to stay at the Grand Central Hotel, DO. And, by all means, eat at the restaurant. You won't regret it, I'm sure.

Cottonwood Falls is a charming little town, part of the Flint Hills area of Kansas. It IS a very small town ..... so city-lovers, be prepared. But if you appreciate history and small-town visits, as we do, you will love visiting there. There are a couple of art galleries, antique places, the historical old courthouse - the "Chase County Courthouse" (with a magnificent spiral wood staircase!). And there is "Emma's Cafe"..... where I ate a most delicious elk-burger (elk were native to Kansas; this elk meat is raised and processed in the Flint Hills, the brochure tells me), with a side of fried squash "round". So good (and the blueberry pie wasn't bad, either - my husband and I shared it)! "Emma's Cafe", in Cottonwood Falls, is fairly well known. I've read about it in the Wichita Eagle newspaper. Besides the taste of the cafe's food - it is well-known for having it's Friday night music sessions. In nice weather, people bring lawn chairs, as it is held outside. Inclement weather brings it inside. I'm told that it is held every Friday throughout the whole year; I hope we can take it in sometime!

Back-to-School Kids' T-Shirt from Zazzle.com

Back-to-School Kids' T-Shirt from Zazzle.com

Shared via AddThis

Cute English Bulldog photo on back-to-school t-shirt, "WAKING UP FOR SCHOOL IS HARD!"

For John ..... Forty Years ..... from Sandy, because I love you.

When we married at 22 and 23 we were young, a bit naive about marriage, but happy and hopeful for the future of our marriage, our life together. Now, in our 40th year together, when many of our age have called it quits and divorced (sometimes more than once), we are still together.

What does that mean?

For one thing
- and I especially speak to the unmarried youth here - it shows that, YES!, it IS possible to wait for, and MARRY - not just "hook up" (yes, kids, I know what that means) - but MARRY - that special person, and grow old together. It means you can continue loving each other and stay married through the ups and downs of marriage.

Yes, we have argued (and still do) during these forty years. (Ask our kids - who sometimes make it sound as if that is all we ever did!). We've disagreed. We've been frustrated with each other. There have been moments we've been so tired and discouraged taking care of four kids, pets and others - that we wondered why we even started. We have had some very sad and serious family incidents that have sent some couples in two different directions. We've made several drastic moves in our lives and had to cope with all that that brings on (like learning another language). We've had deaths of loved friends and family members, which often causes couples to shut down with each other. There have been serious health issues.

In short, our marriage has gone through, and still does, many of the same things others cope with.

And we are still together.

So, again - what does that mean?

Well, in spite of any of the "downs" these past years - it shows that we honored our love and commitment to each other. We didn't walk away when the hard things happened. We worked them out. Together. Forty years together proves you can do it. And be happy.

I don't mean to sound judgmental to anyone - as there are many reasons why a marriage dissolves; we are human. I do, however, think our youth need to hear of the marriages that succeed. They need to hear that you can meet, fall in love, and NOT sleep with someone before you are married. That sex is great and wonderful and good - and you CAN hold off until marriage. That you really CAN do it God's way. That, once married, you CAN work through the arguments, disagreements, etc, and STILL love each other, and stay together. Our young people today are rarely hearing this.

Being married forty years also means that there were so many more "ups" in all of those years than "downs". Forty years of marriage means going through forty years of life with someone you love dearly. It means forty years of having that person there to share with - the fun and happy things as well as the hard and heart-breaking stuff. It means having the person you "made" those four kids with ("made" is the way the French say it) right there helping raise them, loving them with you. It means having someone you can trust and depend on always. Never having to worry about another man or woman coming between you - because you respect and love each other enough. Because you have promised God, and each other, that you will flee temptations...and not put yourselves in positions that invite those temptations. You cling to each other. It means having someone there for forty years to hold your hand, be by your bedside, put a cold rag on your feverish forehead, clean up the vomit, sit up with you in the hospital, pray for you.

It means forty years of sharing laughs, talents, food, books, gardens. Having someone there to come home to. Having someone who can usually speak the words you are thinking - because you have come to know each other so well.

And forty years together means, though the physical bodies are now sagging, bagging, dragging and graying - you STILL see each other almost (I said "almost"!) as when you first met. It means that after forty years together you look at, but past, those physical changes.....and still want and see the person you first loved and said "I do" to all those years ago.

And love each other all the more. At least, that's what forty years together means to me.

And you thank God.

Words of life ...

When a man dies, what is said of him at his funeral?

Our good friend, Richard Schott, missionary for many, many years to the Philippines, with his wife Mary, passed away - his funeral was yesterday morning. Though there were many tears, there was much joy shining through the sadness of losing him here on earth. And what was said of him at his funeral? The truth. Really. Among those who spoke of Richard we heard many of the same defining words: wonderful Christian man, honest, loving, kind, good father, loving and faithful husband, great friend, fun to be around, a man full of integrity, a man following God to the end.

When a man dies the material things he has left are of no importance. What counts are those words - the "words of his life". Has he lived a life that will produce a garden-full of beautiful words that can be spoken, honestly, at his funeral? Not just flattering words, but honest-to-goodness-descriptive-of-the-man-words. Richard was such a man, and there were many at his funeral sharing the words that showed he was such a man. When he accepted the salvation of Jesus Christ, becoming a Christian, his life from that point on moved with God. He loved and trusted God right up to his death. He lived his life trying to be the man God wanted him to be. He wasn't perfect, anymore than the rest of us. He was just a man - but a good man who lived a good life and left good words behind to describe him at his funeral. Such a legacy to his children is much, much more than any of the "things" he might have left them.

I only hope that at my own funeral my "words of life" are just as beautiful as Richard Schott's were.

One of God's Men ...

He walked into the church office where I was the secretary, picked up my left hand and said: "Hmmmmmm...no wedding ring, no engagement ring - I've got a good-looking young fellow out here you need to meet"! Needless to say, the "young fellow" and I, a rather timid nineteen year-old, were both rather embarrassed; but we DID end up together, marrying about four years later, after we both graduated from the same college (Baptist Bible College, Springfield, MO)!

My husband and his family had known "him", Richard Schott, and his wife, Mary, for many years. I had just met Richard when he walked into my office to wait for my pastor, who was a close friend of his. My husband, John, had graduated from high school that year and was traveling for a few weeks with Richard who, with his wife and family, were missionaries in the Philippines. They were back on furlough, visiting their supporting churches.

Over the years, whenever we'd see Richard again, I'd always tease him about introducing us. It was either: "Whenever we argue, I say it's YOUR fault, Richard!", or: "We're doing just great - thanks for introducing us!"

Now, almost forty years later, I sit and hold his aged hand as he lays curled up in a fetal position on his bed in the nursing home where he and his wife have been for awhile. He has suffered a massive stroke, leaving him with almost no movement and no speech. There is little hope of recovery - though none of us can say for sure what God will do. Loving family members and good friends are in and out, letting him know that he is not alone. He hears, we believe; squeezes our hands fairly strongly when we ask him to. His daughter plays the hymns for him that he loves. We all take turns talking to him. I whisper in the ear of this man I owe so much to: "I love you, Richard Schott. Thanks again for introducing me and John." He squeezes my hand. He did.

He is God's man and he is not afraid to die, if it's his time now. Not afraid to face the One he and his wife have served for so many years. Probably even excited to "go home"; though reluctant to leave his family.

I, on the other hand, fear losing him. Not because I think he isn't ready to go, but, selfishly, because of the void he will leave. He has "felt" like a father to me for so many years, even though we've been in different countries for most of those years. My husband feels the same way. And, too, I think of the void he will leave within his family; the sadness they will have to cope with. Death isn't easy to handle, even when we, as Christians, know the dying are Christians and will be with God...peaceful,happy and without pain. Because those of us who are left behind here miss the presence of the departed.

So - I sit and hold his hand nearly forty years after he first held mine, reflecting on the intervening years and the many shapes and forms my life has taken, as well as his and his family's. I pray for him and for his family. I pray that, if this IS his time to go that God will take him quickly and peacefully; that he isn't suffering pain. And, at the same time, I pray that God will raise him up.

I remember John 3:16 (NIV):

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Richard Schott gave me a wonderful "gift" when he introduced me to my husband. And Richard Schott has spent most of his life introducing everyone he meets to Jesus Christ, Who is the greatest gift of all ... from God to us. There are MANY people world-wide eternally grateful to him.

Thank you, Richard.

Cooking!

Finally another beautiful day here in the heartland. Love it! I have a door partially opened and am listening to the birds singing - while the sun is shining. So nice, after all the rainy, stormy days we've been having. Haven't yet seen the weather reports today, but my body is telling me that maybe there is more stormy weather ahead. :)

I title this "cooking" 'cause that's what I do a lot of..... yesterday I baked with the duck eggs a neighbor has given me (they have three egg-laying ducks in the back yard). No, duck eggs are not "yucky" - they taste just like other eggs to me. I even made an omelette out of some the other day and it was good. My neighbor says she uses them mostly for baking - so yesterday I decided, since I had two dozen of them, to do some baking, too. My house sure smelled great all afternoon. :) I baked my mother's chocolate pound cake, a coffee-cake and made up the dough for yeast rolls, which I will be baking in a few minutes.

In case my readers (I DO have a few readers!) haven't noticed, I LOVE to cook and bake. I've always loved cooking - even as a kid, though I didn't do a lot of it then. Of course, during the years of rearing four kids, it wasn't always as pleasant as I would have liked.....cooking was a bit more stressful then, with everything else to be handled. Even so, our kids did usually come home to a house filled with cooking smells - usually good ones. ha! It's a lot simpler and more peaceful NOW, without the kids - but now I don't have them to SHARE my cooking with! :( But, have to say, my husband, John, is very happy that he has a wife who likes to cook.

"Cooking from scratch" has always been my way - but I'm not opposed to using some ready-made things every now and then. Like brownie mixes - but only those really fudgy kinds! However, I usually even make those from "scratch". That's the way my mother cooked and the way I learned to cook. I feel sorry for those who always "eat out", and especially always eat out at fast-food places. They will never know what an honest-to-goodness REAL meal tastes like! And if you always eat out, you don't have those wonderful cooking odors wafting through your home. (Granted, I've had a few BURNT cooking odors wafting though our home - but that's another blog. :)) I have tons of cook-books - they are great reading, not just for the recipes. And, no, I don't always follow the recipe - I usually use it as a starting point because I usually don't have all the ingredients called for. So, I will "ad-lib" the recipe - use what I have, switch something in or out, etc. It generally works. You can't be a cook and be afraid of "trying" something different! I generally follow the recipes for baking - even though I may add to them. My husband likes to say to visitors, "enjoy it now because she probably won't remember later just how she made it - it will come out different the next time". :) That's usually true, what can I say?

I especially love my mom's chocolate pound cake recipe.....not only because it tastes great (if you love chocolate) but because you can slice it thinly and freeze portions for later. I kept out a third of it yesterday and sliced the rest in thin slices, put them in small portions in freezer bags and popped the bags into the freezer. Easy. Did the same with the coffee-cake. It's nice having some home-made goodies ready to pull out of the freezer when the urge strikes you.

Here is the CHOCOLATE POUND CAKE recipe: (I use an angel-food cake tube pan)

5 eggs
3 cups sugar
1 cup milk
5 Tblspns. unsweetened cocoa powder (I always add more)
3 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
2 sticks butter (or margarine - I prefer butter)
1/2 cup Crisco
1 Tblspn. vanilla
***************************************************************************
1. Cream butter, sugar and Crisco
2. Add eggs, one at a time - beat
3. Add flour, mixed with the cocoa and baking powder .... add this alternately with the
milk
4. Add vanilla
5. Pour into well-greased and floured tube pan
6. Bake: 325 ..... about 1 hour and 20 minutes

Spring or Winter?????

Will winter never give it up and fade away this year? The weather people aren't predicting another spring-snow-storm like we had a week or so ago, but they DID "give" us more winter temperatures today...and it's supposed to be freezing tonight. I just stuck my head out the door a few minutes ago to talk with a friend, and we were both freezing ...with the wind blowing hard. I like winter - in WINTER. Now, it's time for winter to close the door and let Spring in! My husband just settled into the recliner with hot coffee and I just came back to the computer with hot chocolate...BUT, we don't have the fire going (yet, anyway!). :) I hope the tulips make it through the night - husband John says since they survived the last snow and ice storm that they'll probably make it. Hope so.

We had our special Easter-Cantata music in our evening service last night...with coffee-and-cookies after. The choir did a great job - the songs were beautiful and had great messages. They've been practicing hard and it showed. Heard lots of nice comments about it. Our church is small but small churches can still have great voices. :)

My President "irked" me again this week - with his "apologizing-for-America" speech. Granted, he did also say the Europeans were a "bit" anti-American, and that they needed to change that. However, though I well know America's faults, it seemed a bit of a slap-in-the-face to the country to have our President standing up in Europe saying how bad we are. It seemed to me our President is out to win as much of Europe's favor as possible ... but not always for good reasons. Again, I say, I do NOT wish to have our country under European laws ... but this administration sure seems to be racing towards just that. We'll see.............I'm beginning to get REAL interested in all these "tea parties" that are popping up everywhere............

"Office Hours"..............

I've been keeping office hours today at the computer, trying to do some things I've been putting off..........I changed my Blog "decor". Nice, huh? And, I've been working on designing new products for my online Zazzle store, after finally getting our scanner to work and scanning in some things last night. Check out some of the Easter products. proclaiming the REAL meaning of Easter: bumper sticker, button, stickers,cards,t-shirt.

I've also been listening, off and on, to President Obama and "about" Obama, as he's in Europe at the G20 meeting. It doesn't encourage me much. He just seems to be bound and determined to turn America over to European "rule"...............our Constitution would become secondary to European law. Our President does not seem too inclined to stand up for American sovereignty. Instead, he appears to be apologizing that Americans ARE Americans! I'm ready to attend one of these "tea parties" that are popping up around the country in protest to some of President Obama's "doings"........................

I'd Like To Say .....: Spring Storm

I'd Like To Say .....: Spring Storm

Spring Storm

Had a short, but beautiful spring storm........lots of ice and snow. I DO love to see the snow and ice - but know, too, the problems they can cause. We lost part of our Bartlett pear tree in the front yard - it had leafed out and the branches were just too heavy, with the ice. About a third of it came down on the end of our front porch, not damaging the porch but tearing up the rose trellis. Ice-covered trees are just gorgeous - makes everything look like a fairy-land, sparkling like diamonds in the bright light. Had to get out and take some photos ... the daffodils and some tulips were bravely holding their heads up out of the snow, reminding me that, yes, this IS Spring! And just a day or so later, it's looking like Spring again - and those very same daffodils and tulips are standing up proving it. :) John was out with the chain saw this afternoon cutting up the part of our tree that came down - more firewood.
