First of the season...........
I wrote this once, then lost it somewhere! :( And can't find it again. I had written the post WITH the photos - now I have the photos but couldn't get the post WITH them, so will write it here.
The boy in the photo is our grandson, Christian, enjoying his first hot chocolate and first wood fire of the season. He is always ready to "start the fire".........so, when it cooled off, we finally did. The next night we had a fire and roasted marshmallows. We have done hot-dogs on the fire before, too - and will again. We've even done grilled-cheese sandwiches. And, if we had a flat-topped wood stove, I'd be having pots of chili, soup, stews on it simmering all afternoon. Yum! (instead, I simmer on the stove or in the crockpot)
I LOVE Fall and the cooler temperatures. The fall weather perks me up - and the fall colors excite me to no end. Everytime I pass by displays of fall pumpkins,gourds,squash,etc., with the various colors of mums - I can't help murmuring to myself, "THANK YOU, God, for creating such beauty!" I LOVE it!!!! I'm even looking forward to winter - though my husband just said this gray afternoon, "I don't look forward to winter.....". But I am like a little kid - I can hardly wait for that first snow. I love to build a fire and sit by it with a cup of tea or hot chocolate, with a book/magazine/newspaper/or watching t.v. (as long as we have that wood for the fire, that is!) Actually, John enjoys that, too - when he can take the time to do so.
As a person who loves to cook and bake, I have to say that Fall inspires me to do more of it.........today, for instance, I mixed up some rolls, which are just about ready to pop into the oven. They will go nicely with the potato/hamburger chowder I made this afternoon for supper. So, as those rolls are ready to bake.....................................
